Dr. Beck is a licensed psychologist in the state of Arizona and a member of the American Psychological Association. His professional training includes a B.A. from Brigham Young University, with a major in Psychology and a minor in Human Development and Family Relations, a M.A. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Utah, and a PhD from the same university, with a major in Clinical Psychology and a minor in Business. His professional experience includes 20+ years in (a) clinical assignments in a variety of settings including a State Mental Hospital, a Veterans Administration Hospital, a University Mental Health Clinic and a Community Mental Health Center, as well as private practice; (b) work as an organizational psychologist with Fortune 500 companies as well as with smaller and medium sized family owned enterprises; (c) and 20+ years of business experience beyond psychology in sales management, marketing, corporate development, human resources and training.
The focus of his work with Family Psychology Associates will be premarital counseling, marriage and family therapy, adolescent and adult individual therapy (including situational and persistent depression, anxiety, fear and stress which disrupts normal functioning). Human resource focused activities will include career counseling, conflict resolution, executive selection, executive coaching, management development, organization improvement, change and transitions management.
Dr. Beck has five married children, and nine grandchildren. He and his wife, Janet Shimoda Beck were married for forty-two years prior to her death in 2003 from an extended illness. Dr. Beck and his family have lived in the Moon Valley area since 1973, having lived prior to that in Utah and California.
